Academics
students in line

CAES departments incorporate environmental elements into the many disciplines the teach. Graduate students in Agricultural and Applied Economics may study how to value ecosystem services through the market. Animal and Dairy Science students learn how recycling water on a diary farm can prevent contamination of manure lagoons into nearby surface water. Biological and Agricultural engineering students have the opportunity to learn the technology behind converting biomass to biofuels. Students in Horticulture, Plant Pathology, and Entomology are taught practices to reduce the use of chemicals in landscaping. Students in Crop and Soil Science may study the fate of contaminants in the soil or measure carbon uptake by plants and trees as a means to reduce the effects of global warming. Finally, Food Science and Technology students may research ways to recycle water in a poultry plant to conserve the resource.
